Situated in the metropolitan borough of Wirral, our boutique care home, The Hazelwell, offers residents low to moderate Dementia Care, alongside Residential Care, Nursing Care, and Respite Care. We provide luxury accommodation and facilities for up to 55 residents, as well as elderly care and support to those with specific health conditions.

What does Dementia Care mean?

Dementia is a condition that most commonly affects the cognitive functions of those living with it, such as their ability to think, remember and communicate. There are varying levels and types of dementia and it can affect people in all different ways. Dementia care is designed to provide support and assistance to those living with the progressive condition, and there are a number of ways in which someone can receive dementia care, such as in a Residential Care Home or Nursing Home

Where and how support for those living with dementia is provided is dependent on the person, as symptoms and severity differ in each case. Recognising the signs and symptoms of dementia is the first step in identifying what support is needed for yourself or a loved one. Signs of early to mid-stages of dementia can look like forgetting dates or appointments, struggling in social situations, and experiencing difficulty with day-to-day tasks and chores.

Dementia is a progressive condition, meaning that symptoms worsen, though these are also at differing rates for each person living with the condition. A more advanced level of dementia can cause those to lose awareness of their surroundings and experiences and require help with mobility and communication. Assessments can be carried out to help determine what support is needed. Our care home will provide a supportive environment for those living with low to moderate dementia care where specialised and professional care is given 24/7 by a team of nurses.

How we Support our Residents with Dementia

We are proud to offer Residential Dementia Care in Wirral, by a team of professionals who are on hand to support our residents with dementia 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our care staff are qualified to a high standard and have the knowledge and training to deliver support to people with dementia. The members of staff in our care team also continue to receive ongoing training, learning all about the latest dementia research and methods so that residents and their loved ones can rest assured they are receiving the best possible care.

Our home is also a fully-equipped environment and the team have everything they need to provide both medical and personal care. They are also fantastic at identifying useful therapies for our residents with dementia as well as knowing when changes to medical plans are required. With every one of our specialist and elderly care services, we invite prospective residents and their loved ones along to a consultation with our home manager where we offer guidance and advice to help them determine whether this is the right path for them.

We recognise that every resident who comes to live with us at The Hazelwll has their own individual needs, preferences, and interests. Each resident will have their own bespoke care plan created for them and an en-suite bedroom that residents are encouraged to personalise with their own belongings and small pieces of furniture, ensuring it is a homely and familiar space to them. Our activities team is also exceptional at creating a stimulating and engaging activities programme that includes both social and 1:1 activities.

Dementia Care in Wirral

Wirral is a metropolitan borough that includes many major towns such as Birkenhead, Hoylake, and Heswall, the location of our luxury, all-inclusive care home. Our care home is located in the idyllic countryside, between the River Dee and the River Mersey, and has picturesque views out to the estuary and towards North East Wales. This means there is plenty of opportunities for our residents to keep active, get fresh air, and enjoy nature, with Cleaver Heath Nature Reservation within walking distance, and Wirral Country Park just a 5-minute drive away.

Not only is Wirral great for countryside exploring, but it also has coastal delights too. For lovers of the seaside, both Thurstaston Beach, which is great for walking and picnics and West Kirby Beach, which is ideal for grabbing a coffee or ice cream are both less than 15 minutes from our home. Having such areas of natural beauty so close to us is great for all of our residents but especially those living with dementia, as they can reap the calming benefits that the great outdoors has. Residents can also gain such benefits by accessing our landscaped gardens and roof terrace.

Our care home is conveniently located near all the useful amenities Heswall has to offer, such as shops, restaurants, and banks. Residents can also take advantage of this and much more in the wider area, as Liverpool is only 25 minutes away and further offers opportunities to discover, shop, dine and socialise. There are also plenty of attractions to explore here such as the World Museum. We know it’s important for our residents living with dementia to not only have engaging experiences but also maintain a routine, which is why residents are encouraged to make use of our Mercedes service for days out and personal errands.
