Residents Spring Into Action to Brighten Up Our Garden Pathways!

At The Hazelwell, spring has brought more than longer days and warmer weather—it’s also inspired a lovely resident-led project to brighten up some of the quieter corners of our outdoor space.

While our main garden area is a well-loved part of the home, full of colourful blooms and a popular spot for a hot drink and a chat, a few of our residents noticed that the pathways around the side of the building hadn’t had quite the same attention. Our residents felt they could do with a splash of colour as when you look at them from the corridors, they don't have the same feel, and we couldn't agree more.

We are lucky enough to have several green-fingered residents at The Hazelwell, and they all came together with the aim to provide our pathways with the same care and creativity as the rest of the garden. With support from our activities and maintenance team, residents were taken out in our car to a local garden centre. There, they had a great time choosing their favourite plants and flowers and picked out a mix of blooms they felt would brighten the view for everyone.

Once back at The Hazelwell, the planting got underway. Staff, residents, and even some visiting family members all got involved, turning a simple idea into a full day of teamwork, laughter and fresh air. There was a great sense of camaraderie, and plenty of stories shared as hands got a little muddy and pots began to fill with vibrant life.

Since then, our residents have been tending to their new plants daily, making sure they’re watered and thriving. It’s been a joy to watch everything grow – and it’s not just the flowers. The sense of pride and ownership that’s blossomed has been just as rewarding and has been brilliant for us to witness.

We can't wait to see how they blossom over the upcoming months and can't wait to get out in our garden more with the warmer weather and brighter evenings coming. If you’re looking for a care home in Heswall where residents feel heard, valued, and actively involved in daily life, we’d love to tell you more. Get in touch and book a tour today!
